La Rioja Wine Region Map. With its beautiful rolling landscapes, medieval hamlets and exquisite wines, La Rioja is Spain’s Tuscany. The wine country is subdivided into three regions- Rioja Alta (where most of the oldest wine “chateaux” are located in and around Haro), Rioja Alavesa (which also belongs geographically to the Basque Country, and is home to some of the prettiest hamlets like Rioja wine region. In Spain, Rioja is synonymous of wine. The denomination of origin spreads along 54.000 hectares around three different Communities (La Rioja, Basque Country and Navarre). The wines of Rioja are the most famous of Spain and its long tradition supports their fame.
La Rioja Alta didn't make a 904 Gran Reserva in 2012, so some of the grapes went into this cuvée of Tempranillo with 5% Graciano. There's lots of sweet, coconutty American oak here framing the bramble and summer berry flavors and an appealing balsamic undertone. Rioja: This is the basic form of the wine. It has been aged for only a short amount of time in oak, potentially only a few months, and then the wine is bottled and sold. La Rioja is a so-so Spanish restaurant. It's fairly small and pleasantly decorated. Spanish La Liga and La Liga 2 games were playing on the TV over the bar. They have meat hanging in the back of the restaurant which they slice off for customers who order meat plates. Service was friendly but honestly quite slow.
